History, Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences
History does not just involve what is written in books and what professors say in class––history is embodied and multidimensional. We learn best by doing, and the History Core shows us that history is alive and that we are part of it.
Reading historical sources, writing papers, and listening to lectures remain at the center of the History Core. But now students’ learning continues after they step outside the classroom door.
Throughout the academic year, students take part in a wide variety of cultural activities and events. History Core classes will attend music concerts and theater performances, visit the Burns Library, watch films, and go to special evening lectures by History Department faculty and distinguished visitors. Students and faculty will also leave the B.C. campus to go on historical walking tours of Boston and visit local museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, the Peabody Museum, and the Harvard Natural History Museum.
By sharing such "fieldwork" experiences together, students and faculty will add new dimensions and depth to historical understanding.
