The Irish Influence with historian Ciara Meehan
Please note there will be NO IRISH INFLUENCE ON NOV. 27 due to the Thanksgiving break, but JOIN US ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4 at 9.30pm Irish time, 4.30 pm EST when our guest will be:
Ciara Meehan, an historian based at the University of Hertfordshire. Ciara has worked extensively on the history of Cumann na Geadheal and Fine Gael, and has just co-authored, with the Irish Times writer Stephen Collins, Saving the State: Fine Gael from Collins to Varadkar (Gill: 2020). David McCullough says it is ‘A superb, illuminating and even-handed look at the highs and lows in Fine Gael’s turbulent history,’ while the Sunday Business Post called it ‘formidable, authoritative’. It is one of the most talked about political history books of the year and bound to be a best seller.
Ciara has also worked widely on aspects of women’s history in Ireland including curating exhibitions and writing about the domestic experience of electrification, women’s magazine in Ireland and also editing, with Jennifer Evans, Perceptions of Pregnancy from the Seventeenth to the Twentieth Century (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017).
