The Irish Influence -A discussion with Ailbhe Darcy & David Wheatley On The History of Irish Women's Poetry
About this Event
In June this year Ailbhe and David publish their hugely significant Cambridge History of Irish women’s poetry. A work that captures the long history of women’s poetry writing in Ireland, it is a ground-breaking and comprehensive account of Irish women's poetry from earliest times to the present day. It reads Irish women's poetry through many prisms – mythology, gender, history, the nation – and most importantly, close readings of the poetry itself. The work is underpinned not only by their careers as literary scholars, but also as they are both published and award-winning poets in their own right. Ailbhe’s most recent collection of poetry is Insistence, published in June 2018 with Bloodaxe Books, which won Wales Book of the Year and the Piggott Prize for Poetry in association with Listowel Writers' Week. David’s most recent poetry collection was The President of Planet Earth (Carcanet/Wake Forest UP, 2017).
