Undergraduate TechTrek East (ISYS3206) is a competitively admitted 3-credit, field-study course combining class work with a weekend field study in New York City and several local Boston trips. During the trips students will meet with senior executives, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists in technology industry firms. While focusing on the tech industry, TechTrek is designed to appeal to all majors. Coursework and visits will have a managerial focus, highlighting executive, marketing, finance, operations, and R&D functions.
Class will be held Wednesdays 3:00-5:00pm, with a field study in Boston throughout the semester and in New York over Fall Break. Classwork involves extensive reading, lectures, presentations, blog posts, and an exam.
Application & Payment Deadlines
Admission to ISYS3206 is competitive. Class size will be strictly limited to 24 students. All Boston College undergraduates in their sophomore, junior, or senior years may apply. Minimum GPA for participation: 3.2 (exceptions may be made under compelling circumstances).
Applications must be submitted and resume & unofficial transcript must be emailed to the Shea Center (sheacenter@bc.edu) by April 8. Accepted students will require a $200 non-refundable deposit by the following Friday. Admitted students will be notified of procedures for registering for this closed-registration course.
Travel & Class Requirements
During the fall semester, classes will be held Wednesdays 3:00-5:00pm. Students will travel to New York to meet with employees and senior managers at startups and in the tech industry over fall break, Sunday, October 7 -- Wednesday, October 10, 2018.
Costs
The cost of the 2018 trip will be $1000 after a $200 deposit. This cost includes bus fare, hotel, and breakfast.
