Her research and teaching concentrate on the intersection of spatial data and human-environment systems, bridging and synthesizing across the disciplinary lines of 3S technology (GIS, GPS, and Remote sensing), computing, AI/Machine Learning, environmental sciences, and social-economics. Dr. Pan’s research has resulted in more than 130 publications (122 peer-reviewed journal papers and 9 book chapters) including Nature (2), PNAS (1), Nature Climate Change (1), Nature Food (1), and Nature Communication (1). Dr. Pan’s Google Scholar Citations stand at 9270, with an H-index of 51 as of January 2024. Dr. Pan’s work has been featured in various news media and included in IPCC Assessment Reports and the US National Climate Assessment.

Seminar Abstract
We are striving to solve the grand challenges in the areas of climate, food-water-energy, and health to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This seminar explores how to use Spatial-based Monitoring, Assessing and Responding Technologies (SMART) for addressing some of critically environment-related SDGs such as water, food and climate (SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 6: SDG 6: clean water and sanitation, and SDG 6: Climate Action). I will present several case studies using SMART for investigating cutting-edge research topics such as hydrological processes and water security, Food-Water-Energy nexus, extreme climate and environment resilience, urban green space, and public health.
