Please join the Schiller Institute and the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department for a seminar in the Interdisciplinary Research Seminar Series on Climate Change.

This session will feature Dr. Hector J. Jimenez Gonzalez from the University of Puerto Rico who will present From Trends to Adaptations: Understanding Puerto Rico's Climate Challenges.

Dr. Jiminez Gonzalez is a Professor in the Physics Department at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez (UPRM). After completing his PhD at MIT in Solid State Physics (1992), he worked at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory and Lockheed Martin IR-Imaging systems, doing modeling of semiconductors for IR sensors in remote sensing applications, designing a space-based interferometer, and working on the AIRS instrument, part of the AQUA satellite mission. In 1998 he became a faculty member in the Physics Department at UPRM. In 2004 he co-founded the Atmospheric Science and Meteorology program at that institution, which has produced many distinguished alums over nearly 20 years. He has been chairman of the Physics Department, Director of the Office for Institutional Research at UPRM, and in 2020 became the director of the Puerto Rico Climate Office and State Climatologists.  He is currently focused on problems related to the physics of the atmosphere as well as the challenges that climate change is posing to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
