RPCA GRIT Seminar: Dr. Shannon Dorsey

Thursday, November 18, 2021 10am to 11am

The Research Program on Children and Adversity is proud to host the Grants & sponsored Research IniTiative (GRIT). GRIT is a monthly webinar that aims to create a space for new investigators to receive constructive feedback from peers on grant proposals for NIH and other funders, and  provide an opportunity for senior investigators to share their research expertise with others in the spirit of capacity building. All aspiring and experienced researchers are welcome to participate.

Dr. Dorsey will be presenting on "Implementation Science and evidence-based treatments (EBT) for children and adolescents." This seminar will use a specific study in western Kenya, Building and Sustaining Interventions for Children (BASIC), to feature examining both clinical intervention effectiveness and implementation outcomes. The talk will feature "practical implementation science" - with a focus on community and stakeholder collaboration and leadership to support successful implementation of a mental health intervention. BASIC aims to identify implementation practices and policies that support successful implementation, in health and education. Working with stakeholders and community members, we built a practical, low-resource implementation support program that could be delivered by peers.

Shannon Dorsey, Ph.D., is Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington and Adjunct Professor in Global Health and Psychiatry. Her research focuses on treatment effectiveness and implementation science, specifically for children and adolescents receiving care in low and under-resourced contexts and settings. These include publicly-funded mental health in Washington State and mostly rural areas in low and middle-income countries.
