DESCRIPTION:The Research Program on Children and Adversity is proud to host
  the Grants & sponsored Research IniTiative (GRIT). GRIT is a monthly webi
 nar that aims to create a space for new investigators to receive construct
 ive feedback from peers on grant proposals for NIH and other funders\, and
   provide an opportunity for senior investigators to share their research 
 expertise with others in the spirit of capacity building. All aspiring and
  experienced researchers are welcome to participate.\n\nDr. Chris Blattman
  will be presenting on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Violence Reduction
 . Dr. Blattman will speak on his work with violence reduction in Africa\, 
 Latin America\, and the Unites States\, and what we've learned about CBT a
 nd the advantages of integrating it with economic assistance.\n\nChris Bla
 ttman is the Ramalee E. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies at Th
 e University of Chicago’s Pearson Institute and Harris Public Policy. He
  is an economist and political scientist who studies poverty\, violence an
 d crime in developing countries. He has designed and evaluated strategies 
 for tackling poverty\, including cash transfers to the poorest. Much of hi
 s work is with the victims and perpetrators of crime and violence\, testin
 g the link between poverty and violence. His recent work looks at other so
 urces of and solutions to violence. These solutions range from behavioral 
 therapy to social norm change and local-level state building. He has worke
 d mainly in Colombia\, Liberia\, Uganda\, Ethiopia\, and Chicago’s South
  Side.
