"High-stakes Admissions Testing: The Pendulum Swings" with Henry Braun

In this presentation I will briefly review the history of U.S. college admissions testing, with a focus on the perceived benefits of having a standardized assessment as one component of a student’s portfolio. I’ll then turn to the manifold criticisms that have been voiced over the years and offer an opinion on each. Finally, I’ll address the current state of admissions testing more generally and speculate on its future.

Events are in person at the Association of Retired Faculty office (300 Hammond Pond Parkway, Newton). Program at noon. Lunch at 11:30
