The McMullen Museum welcomes Professor Anne Klein of Rice University to introduce her latest book, Being Human and a Buddha Too (2023). In this virtual lecture, Klein will focus on the art of viewing at the heart of Buddhist thought and practice. Late Indian and Tibetan Buddhism is profoundly optimistic about human potential for awakening. Klein will highlight key ideas, images, and practices that support this optimism, including a brief introduction to the highly diverse array of human-Buddha forms in the Tibetan pantheon, whose appearances are meant to convey and inspire the states of peace, wisdom, and love that constitute awakening.

Free; virtual; open to the public; register at https://bccte.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJElfu2prj8iHtakRmZzwL3XLchL9eu-xaS9

Anne Carolyn Klein is Professor and former Chair in the Department of Religion at Rice University, where she developed a contemplative studies concentration for graduate students, teaches courses on Buddhism, and reads with students in Tibetan.
