DESCRIPTION:Philip Metres is the author of twelve books\, including Fugitiv
 e/Refuge\, Shrapnel Maps\, The Sound of Listening: Poetry as Refuge and Res
 istance\, Sand Opera\, and I Burned at the Feast: Selected Poems of Arseny 
 Tarkovsky. His work—poetry\, translation\, essays\, fiction\, criticism\, a
 nd scholarship—has garnered fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation\, th
 e Lannan Foundation\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Ohio Arts C
 ouncil\, and the Watson Foundation. He is the recipient of the Adrienne Ric
 h Award\, three Arab American Book Awards\, the Lyric Poetry Prize\, a Push
 cart Prize\, and the Cleveland Arts Prize. Metres has been called “one of t
 he essential poets of our time\,” whose work is “beautiful\, powerful\, mag
 netically original.” He is professor of English and director of the Peace\,
  Justice\, and Human Rights program at John Carroll University. He lives wi
 th his family in Cleveland\, Ohio.\n\nCosponsored by the Boston College Poe
