“My Brother’s Black Body” Photo Exhibit Reception with Photographer Malakhai Pearson
About this Event
2150 Commonwealth Avenue, Brighton, MA 02135
http://www.bc.edu/offices/wc/programs/Love_Your_Body_Week.htmlPhotographer Malakhai Pearson features a series of images of the black male body that will urge viewers to view black masculinity outside of the normative constructs created by current media and societal tropes. By complicating the narrative of the young Black man today, these series of images hope to depict the black male body as a multidimensional representation, steering viewers to consider the intersection of the black male body with police brutality, mass incarceration, and athletic exploitation. Dr. Martin Summers will open the reception with a brief introduction emphasizing why an exhibit like this is necessary and highlighting more historical and statistical data regarding the state of the Black man in America today.
The exhibit will then be installed in the third floor of O’Neill Library from October 24 to November 7, 2016.
