DESCRIPTION:On November 2nd Irish Studies will host the seminar: 'Re-discov
 ering poverty\, money lending in the Republic of Ireland in the 1960s'. Th
 e seminar explores how social and economic change made illegal money-lendi
 ng more viable for many of Dublin's working poor. The seminar has its orig
 ins in a research project undertaken by three historians\; Carole Holohan 
 of Trinity College Dublin\, Sean O'Connell of Queen's University Belfast a
 nd Rob Savage of Boston College. The findings of their project were publis
 hed in a recent edition of the journal Irish Historical Studies.
