Kelley Coblentz Bautch, “‘The One Called Maccabeus’: Shared Traditions in 1 and 2 Maccabees”

In her lecture, Dr. Kelley Coblentz Bautch will explore comparable traditions in 1 and 2 Maccabees and what light these might shed on the respective compositions. This talk will focus on the appellations "Maccabeus" and "Hasmonae" and the legacy of these names in ancient Jewish and Christian communities.   

This lecture is open to the public, with registration, and is part of the Jewish-Christian Lecture Series by the Center for Christian-Jewish Learning. This lecture is co-sponsored by the Second Temple Judaism and Early Christianity Workshop, and the Gloria L. and Charles I. Clough School of Theology and Ministry (CSTM).

Dr. Kelley Coblentz Bautch is Professor of Religious and Theological Studies at St. Edward’s University. Her research interests include ancient Jewish and Christian literature considered apocalyptic and pseudepigraphal. Dr. Coblentz Bautch explores the interpretation of Scripture and hermeneutical questions. Her current projects include a commentary on 1 Maccabees for the Wisdom Series (Liturgical Press) and a Handbook on Angels and Demons (Oxford).
