In the Institute for Scientific Research Colloquium Series, Dr. Ercha Aa, MIT Haystack Observatory, presents a talk. Come learn what is happening in space plasma physics.

Abstract: Equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) are irregular plasma density depletions that frequently occur in the nighttime equatorial and low-latitude ionosphere. EPBs and associated irregularities can cause satellite signal scintillations and even signal loss of lock, thereby imposing severe space weather effects on communication and navigation systems. However, our understanding of the storm-time and day-to-day variability of EPBs is still incomplete. This talk will discuss some of our recent findings about the knowns and unknowns of EPBs’ variability and their connection with forcing from above and below.

Light refreshments start 10:15 am. Directions in website link. (Do not go to BC Law Library, but the old Kenny Cottle Library building past Stuart House across the quad.)
