DESCRIPTION:In the Institute for Scientific Research Colloquium Series\, Pr
ofessor\, and Co-Director of the Small Satellite Collaborative\, Kerri Cah
oy\, MIT presents a talk on the application of artificial intelligence (AI
) to earth observing satellites.\n\nAbstract: We briefly start at a high l
evel\, discussing the use of AI for space applications\, moving toward use
of AI onboard. After reviewing the major AI categories\, methods\, tasks\
, and algorithms (including deep learning algorithms)\, we examine in more
detail a couple of example applications: 1) onboard fault detection and a
ttribution for an operational low-Earth orbiting spacecraft\, 2) remote se
nsing feature detection and filtering for both a low-Earth orbiting optica
l imaging mission\, and 3) very low radio frequency radio emissions from l
ow-Earth orbiting spacecraft\, and whether power line harmonic detection c
ould be useful.\n\nLight refreshments start 10:15am. Directions in website
link. (Do not go to BC Law Library\, but the old Kenny Cottle Library bui
lding past Stuart House across the quad.)
