DESCRIPTION:Beatrix Hoffman is a historian of the U.S. health care system. 
 She is the author of two books\, The Wages of Sickness: The Politics of Hea
 lth Insurance in Progressive America and Health Care for Some: Rights and R
 ationing in the United States since 1930\, and co-editor of Patients as Pol
 icy Actors. She has published articles on many topics in health care histor
 y\, including social movements in the U.S. health system\, the origins of i
 nsurance copayments and deductibles\, and the rise of the emergency room as
  safety net. She has been the recipient of awards from the Robert Wood John
 son Foundation\, the National Endowment for the Humanities\, and the Americ
 an Council for Learned Societies\, and served as guest curator for the Nati
 onal Library of Medicine's exhibition "For All the People: A Century of Cit
 izen Action in Health Care Reform." Beatrix is Professor of History at Nort
 hern Illinois University in DeKalb\, Illinois\, where she is a member of Fa
 culty Advocates for Undocumented Students and NIU DREAM Action. Her current
  research examines the history of the right to health care for immigrants a
 nd migrants in the United States.
