Brook A. Ziporyn is a scholar of ancient and medieval Chinese religion and philosophy. He has produced highly acclaimed translations of the Zhuangzi (2009, with selections from traditional commentaries; 2020, the complete writings) and the Daodejing (2023).
Prior to joining the Divinity School at the University of Chicago, Prof. Ziporyn taught Chinese philosophy and religion at the University of Michigan, Northwestern, Harvard, and the National University of Singapore.
Ziporyn is the author of seven books on Buddhist and Daoist philosophy and early Chinese thought. His latest book is titled Experiments in Mystical Atheism: Godless Epiphanies from Daoism to Spinoza and Beyond and will be published by the University of Chicago Press in October 2024.
