Gaelic Roots Concert ft. Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde
The Gaelic Roots Concert series features:
A celebrated sean-nós singer from the northwest Gaeltacht of Donegal, Doimnic has been immersed in the culture of the area from a young age. This Gaelic speaking area in Ulster preserves not only the Donegal sean-nós songs, but also songs from all over Ulster.
Doimnic founded Cór Thaobh an Leithid, a four part choir, in the Donegal Gaeltacht made up of the finest sean-nós singers in the area. The choir has had many successes: in 2008 they performed in a special concert of newly composed pieces by Dónal Lunny, commissioned for the Errigal Arts festival which was televised on TG4. In 2009 the choir performed a set of songs newly arranged for choir and string quintet by Doimnic as part of the Earagail Arts Festival and in 2010 at the National Concert Hall as part of Dónal Lunnys St Patricks Festival Concert.
Doimnic has released four highly commended CDs, and in 2009, he won the prestigious Corn Uí Riada, the highest accolade in Ireland for sean-nós singers.
Doimnic will present a sean-nós singing workshop followed by a concert.
