Boston College Global Korea Project Presents...

Event Description

This historical drama recreates the events of the December 1979 military coup in South Korea following the assassination of President Park Chung-hee, who had himself overthrown the democratically elected Second Republic in 1961. The film captures how the government established by Chun Doo-hwan in 1980 betrayed the Korean people’s long-held hope for democracy, as well as how this betrayal facilitated the survival of vestiges of militarism into the post-democratization era. We can see these vestiges playing out today in South Korea’s current political crisis.
