The capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) are evolving in powerful new directions. As new capabilities converge across multiple modalities, what possibilities could begin reshaping higher education over the next 3 to 5 years?
In this interactive session, we’ll use strategic foresight exercises and tools to connect emerging capabilities to real-world use cases for research, teaching, and administration and explore their applications in our own workflows.
Through an interactive card game, participants will work in small teams to explore practical real-world examples of how AI technologies already are — and will continue to — reshape the future of higher education, including:
- course design and development
- multidisciplinary research with big data
- scientific publishing and peer review
- admissions and enrollment management
- student mental health and support
The session is designed to encourage the productive exchange of differing viewpoints on complex issues with no easy answers. Our hope is to spark thoughtful discussions about emerging AI technologies and the human values that guide our work in higher education. By exploring diverse scenarios and perspectives, we aim to have meaningful dialogue about aligning AI technologies with higher education's core missions of high-quality research, teaching, and service.
As part of International Education Week, we will conclude with a comparative lens to place our discussion in the context of real-world policies and uses of AI at universities and higher education systems in the UAE, India, Brazil, and China, as well as discuss the geopolitical landscape shaping development and deployment of AI technologies in higher education systems around the world.
This workshop will equip participants with:
- A library of practical tools and methods to ethically integrate AI capabilities into higher education.
- Co-creation of realistic use cases grounded in emerging innovations over the next 3 to 5 years.
- Frameworks to align intelligent systems with core academic values and modalities.
Participants will leave with an expanded vision of what's possible, a clear sense of what's at stake, and powerful new tools and strategies to try out in their work
Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to 50 registrants.
