DESCRIPTION:Cryptic Species and how to find them: Factors governing coral r
esponses to global change\n\nThis seminar explores coral bleaching as one
of the most visible and consequential responses of marine ecosystems to en
vironmental stress. Although corals are often treated as biologically homo
geneous units\, bleaching susceptibility varies widely among species and p
opulations. The presentation highlights how genomic tools can be used with
in an integrative biological framework to investigate the mechanisms under
lying this variation in coral bleaching responses.\n\nAbout: Dr. Sarah Dav
ies is an Associate Professor of Biology at Boston University. Her researc
h focuses on ecological genomics and population genetics\, with an emphasi
s on understanding coral ecology and the impacts of climate change on mari
ne systems. She uses molecular ecology approaches to study symbiosis and r
esilience in coral communities\, working to uncover how genetic and enviro
nmental factors shape the future of reef ecosystems.
