Developing Data Literacy: How to Tell When a Graph is Lying to You
About this Event
893 Centre Street, Newton, MA 02459, USA
The term "data literacy" is appearing more and more on lists of necessary skills for successful lawyers. Today's lawyers need to be able to interpret the data and graphs we see in reports, articles, or news stories. But when looking at a graph, how do we recognize what that graph is communicating to the reader and, more importantly, whether that message is biased or inaccurate? Librarian Avi Bauer will walk through some of the many ways graphs can twist data to tell stories that are misleading or downright wrong, and how to spot these data lies in the wild. No math skills required!
Lunch will be provided.
