DBT Coping Skills
Monday, May 16, 2022 10am to 11:30am
About this Event
A weekly skills group for students who struggle to control their emotions or behavior.
The group uses Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a well-established treatment that teaches people four types of skills for reducing suffering and regaining control:
* Mindfulness for experiencing and accepting life as it is
* Emotional regulation for reducing vulnerability, reactivity, and suffering
* Distress tolerance for surviving pain and crisis without making things worse
* Interpersonal effectiveness for getting needs met, saying no, and managing conflict
The group is like a workshop focused on learning and practicing skills. Members use their problems as opportunities for practicing skills, but any one member’s experiences are not discussed in depth.
