Cultivating REC Belonging for Global Majority Grad Students in PWIs
About this Event
Join us for learning about and envisioning applications of a framework of fostering racial-ethnic-cultural (REC) belonging in graduate students of the Global Majority (i.e., BIPOC) in predominantly white institutions. Student attendees will have the opportunity to co-create counterspaces for belonging among other BIPOC students. Faculty will receive a primer on applications of the model to facilitate greater REC belonging for their students of the Global Majority.
B. Andi Lee's research aims to challenge systemic racism, foster wellness, and promote the humanity of Global Majority members by centering their lived experiences and expertise in belonging, healing, and liberation. Her research on racial-ethnic-cultural (REC) belonging includes a systematic review of existing measures of REC belonging (Lee et al., 2022), a grounded theory framework of REC belonging (Lee et al., 2023) and a measure of REC belonging, the iBelong Scale (Lee & Neville, 2024). Andi has a passion for working with members of the Global Majority through mentorship, research, and clinical work, and is excited to integrate her interests in REC belonging to promote collective healing and liberation for members of the Global Majority (i.e., Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color).
