Creating Sites of Radical Healing: Implications for Psychology — Dr. Helen Neville, B. Andi Lee, Nimot Ogunfemi, Salman Safir
About this Event
This presentation will outline the importance of engaging in both individual and collective healing in the face of racism and other forms of exploitation and discrimination. Engaging in emerging research on radical healing and the Public Psychology for Liberation training model, the presenters argue for the necessity of creating intentional spaces to counter the harms created by interlocking forms of oppression. Radical healing spaces are sites that evoke a sense of freedom, joy, and affirmation as well as that foster positive relationships and critical consciousness among the Global Majority. The work of the Liberation Lab is used to illustrate ways that faculty and students in psychology can co-create radical healing spaces in research labs and in research projects. Using a critical lens, the presenters will conclude with lessons learned and future directions from a critical lens.
