Join us for a Courageous Conversation on the history and urgent reality of book challenges and banning.  This essential dialogue will explore the complex intersections of censorship, access, and inclusion, and their profound impact on intellectual freedom and information access availability at different levels of education, as well as the preparedness of our students and the broader campus community.  

Facilitated by:

• Marla DeRosa, Associate Professor of the Practice, English Department, and Director of Undergraduate Studies for English
• Scott Britton, Associate University Librarian for Access, Administration, and Staff Development

Prof. DeRosa and Mr. Britton will share insights from the academy and the library, examining how limits on intellectual exploration directly influence the diversity of thought, curriculum development, and critical thinking essential for success in the classroom and the workplace.

We will address the following questions in our courageous conversation:

• Why are books being challenged?
• Who decides what students and citizens can read?
• Why does this matter now more than ever?

Censored and banned books will be available to ground our discussion.  This is a vital opportunity to think critically and share perspectives on safeguarding intellectual freedom within educational settings and beyond.
