DESCRIPTION:DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES\, THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED. WE H
OPE TO RESCHEDULE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. \n\nIn her new book\, British-Irish
Relations in the Twenty-First Century (Oxford University Press 2024)\, Pro
fessor Etain Tannam (Trinity College Dublin) examines the impact of the Be
lfast/Good Friday Agreement and Brexit on Northern Ireland\, and on Britis
 h-Irish relations\, from 1998 to 2023. Tannam highlights the Agreement's s
uccesses\, but also its failures\, and argues that the governments' weak g
uardianship of the Agreement contributed to its limitations. She concludes
that a joint intergovernmental strategy will be needed to manage identity
politics\, especially given the possibility of a future referendum on a U
nited Ireland.\n\nTo mark the publication of this important study\, Profes
sor Etain Tannam will engage in conversation with the Vice Consul General
at the Irish Consulate General of Ireland in Boston Paul Rooney and His Ma
jesty’s Consul General to New England David Clay MBE. The moderated pane
l discussion will consider and analyze the totality of relationships betwe
en Britain and Ireland in the 21st century against the backdrop of Brexit
 and domestic and international instability.
