It provides participants with the tools they need to quickly recognize when they are bystanders, evaluate the consequences for everyone involved, and take action. ABI & De-escalation training promotes nonviolent, safe alternative approaches for defusing harmful situations by engaging with the aggressor and those subject to harmful acts.

Becoming Nonviolent Peacebuilders is a multi-day series of training workshops designed for students, faculty, staff, and broader community members to develop constructive nonviolent skills. These workshops are being offered in conjunction with the Catholic Nonviolent Initiative, a program of Pax Christi International, which is a global movement dedicated to promoting active nonviolence as a core principle of the Gospel. By fostering a culture of peace, justice, and reconciliation, these workshops strive to cultivate the skills necessary to heal and transform both human relationships and our planet. Topics to be explored throughout the trainings include: nonviolent communication, active bystander intervention, restorative justice, unarmed civilian defense, and developing strategic nonviolent campaigns.
The Faith, Peace, and Justice Program is co-sponsoring these workshops.
