Art After Dark: Student Opening

Friday, September 5

6:00–10:00 pm

Art After Dark is back with its biannual students-only opening celebration, this time with three exhibitions celebrating Italian Medieval and Renaissance paintings, nineteenth-century Belgian landscapes from Tervuren, and post-war photographs by the late Nobel Prize-winning chemist Martin Karplus. To celebrate the fall exhibitions, we’re offering an evening filled with art, games, live performances, food, film, and music to complement the themes and materials on display. The opening invites students to:

  • Watch live performances by acapella groups, dance crews, and student musicians
  • Try a variety of Italian canapés and desserts
  • Design a mosaic for your dorm room
  • Learn to create gold-leaf motifs on a journal or handmade paper
  • Felt a whale in the spirit of Moby Dick
  • Try your hand at a variety of Italian card games, such as Scope, Briscola + Tressette, in addition to Medieval and Renaissance board games: Tuscany, Citadels, and Trade and Triumph
  • Enjoy outdoor lawn games (including Axe Throwing, Giant Yahtzee, Giant Connect Four, Giant Jenga, and Lawn Bowling)
  • Participate in a scavenger hunt in the galleries for prizes
  • Watch movies on the terrace
  • And of course, be the first to see the fall exhibitions

Join us! Walk over from the Mods, head down from Upper, or park in the adjacent lots. Get dressed up or keep it casual. If you’re taking the Comm. Ave. shuttle, get off at the Greycliff Hall stop.
