Art After Dark: Student Opening for States of Becoming

View mapArt After Dark is back with its biannual students-only opening celebration, this time with works by seventeen contemporary African diasporic artists. To celebrate the fall States of Becoming exhibition, we’re offering an evening filled with art, games, live performances, food, film, and music to complement the themes and materials on display. The opening invites students to:

Watch live performances by:
- 6:15: The Common Tones
- 7:30: The Acoustics
- 7:50–10:00 pm: The Music Guild
- + More TBD!
- Try a variety of contemporary American and African-inspired canapés and desserts
- Design a 3D light box for your dorm room
- Weave a basket, a decorative mat, or a pair of earrings
- Design and carve your own stamp
- Try your hand at a variety of African games, featuring Achi (Ghana), Fanarona (Madagascar), Hyena (Sudan), Ludo, Mancala, Spar (Ghana) + Yoté
- Enjoy outdoor lawn games (including Giant Yahtzee, Giant Connect Four, Giant Jenga, and Lawn Bowling)
- Participate in a scavenger hunt in the galleries for prizes
- Watch movies on the terrace
- And of course, be the first to see the fall exhibition States of Becoming
Join us! Walk over from the Mods, head down from Upper, or park in the adjacent lots. Get dressed up or keep it casual. If you’re taking the Comm. Ave. shuttle, get off at the Greycliff Hall stop.
