Dr. Amna Afreen holds a Ph.D. in Islamic studies from the University of Karachi. She has published two books and many articles on reform in Islamic thought. Fearing for her safety and that of her family, Dr. Afreen fled Pakistan for the United States in January 2015. IIE-SRF fellowships awarded later in 2015 supported fellowship appointments at Harvard University, Georgetown University, and the International Institute of Islamic Thought. She recently published a book titled Curriculum Reform in Pakistan: The Need for Integration and Appreciation of Diversity.
