Discussion, whether in pairs, small groups, or as an entire class, can help students explore connections among course concepts, share their opinions about a topic, and feel a greater sense of classroom community. However, the realities of teaching and learning this year have necessitated changing how we engage students with course materials through conversation. This session will ask instructors to identify their goals for discussion, review a variety of discussion types and other activities best suited to our current teaching contexts, and then determine which option(s) will help students meet those goals. We will explore both synchronous and asynchronous options and propose some tech tools (including Google Docs, Jamboard, and Perusall) to facilitate student learning.
