DESCRIPTION:The vast majority of US college courses count participation tow
 ards a portion of the final grade. Even so\, instructor expectations of wh
 at constitutes participation vary wildly and may not be transparent to stu
 dents. This interactive session will articulate the benefits of classroom 
 participation and explore different activities that instructors might coun
 t as participation. We will also have the opportunity to consider some str
 ategies for grading participation that encourage learning in different dis
 ciplinary contexts. Laura Seaberg will facilitate this session. Enrollment
  is limited\; please register as soon as possible\, but no later than Marc
 h 27th.\n\nThose who plan to complete the Apprenticeship in College Teachi
 ng Program are required to attend 5 required workshops and 2 elective work
 shops. This is one of the elective workshops for the program. Please note 
 that those who miss more than ten minutes of a session will not receive AC
 T credit for that workshop.
