Black Women Matter Retreat
Students who attend the Black Women Matter Retreat will:
1. Create space where black women do not have to justify or explain who they are and what their needs are because of the intersecting aspects of their gender and racial identities and as a result be willing to explore the challenges associated being a black woman at Boston College.
2. Examine the experience/feelings associated with being “othered” or invisibilized on a PWI campus.
3. Create/strengthen support networks of peers and mentors by deepening connections through shared storytelling and provide social norming so students do not feel that they are alone in their experiences.
4. Develop a strategy for navigating the campus climate of a PWI as a black woman.
